I do not know why I did not think to send this info on before. I had read that it is illegal for a hospital to detain a patiient for unpaid bills. I guess I assumed the people on the ground in CDO had explored this law.

This Law came out about two years ago. It is illegal to hold patients in hospitals due to upaid bills. If Mr. Hunt was treated the entire time in a private room, then it may get sticky but it seems the right people are not pushing the issue.

New law breaks hospitals' old practice of detaining patients

Quezon City (3 May) -- Holding back patients for non-payment of hospital bills is now illegal.
Officials of hospitals and similar institutions violating Republic Act No. 9439 (RA 9439) will face six month imprisonment and fines up to
P50,000.
RA 9439 intends to put an end to some hospitals' cruel habit of detaining patients until they can afford to settle their financial obligations. This practice buried many indigents deeper in debt because some hospitals continued to charge them for their "extended
confinement". Naturally expenses skyrocketed higher than what patients have actually incurred during their treatment.
Under RA 9439, patients who either "fully or partially recovered but incapable to settle in part or full their hospitalization expenses
including professional fees and medicines shall be allowed to leave the hospital" provided they have signed promissory notes.
These promissory notes, proof of the patient's commitment to settle unpaid obligations, must be supported by mortgage or guarantee of a co-maker who shares the liability with the patient.
Upon the issuance of promissory notes, patients are entitled to medical certificates and other documents.
As for the deceased patients, the hospital or medical clinic shall release death certificates and other documents required for internment
to their surviving relatives.
The new law excludes patients who are treated in private rooms. The Health Department is now working on the law's implementing rules and regulations. (PIA)

Thanks for the above post reference . I for one was not aware of this ruling.
I do know that the hospital has asked for a signed promissory note on behalf of Mr Hunt but it was my understanding that Mrs Hunt's mother was the person asked .Given that they seem to be a family of fairly modest means i do not know if she was found acceptable . I will ask Daisy about verification of this point.
The " money trail " that seems to be a point of contention for so many is at best confusing . Part of this may simply stem from the fact that money sent by donors via Expats Charities Daisy is aware of but that is not always the case for other monies sent by Albert or Mrs Hunt . This is due to the fact that money is sent directly to Mrs Hunt's family on Mr Hunt's behalf.
It was suggested that Mrs Hunt contact the hospital Billing department and arrange to have funds sent directly to them but i do not know if this was ever done . It is also my understanding that the US Embassy in Manila can assist in setting this up for Mrs Hunt but i do not know if she has contacted them regarding this.
Daisy did get a phone call from an Embassy rep a few days ago who stated they they would call the hospital . Again , do not know if that has been done yet.
The biggest issue of course is getting Mr Hunt stablized so that he might be able to travel . His bills continue to mount daily of course and the last amount i heard was well over 200,000 . Hopefully his daily med costs will decrease soon as he gets better.
In the end despite all of the folks trying to help Mr Hunt both here and abroad Mrs Hunt by being his legal wife is the one that basically has to initiate any kind of gov assistance on his behalf . That would include release of his diagnosis and medical records as requested by American doctor(s) and follow up on possible VA benefits . It is my understanding that the hospital is not keen on releasing the medical record so that is most likely a legal issue.
As for the Yuma newspaper comments disappearing if that is the case i am certain that is also a legal issue . Daisy was asked to contact the newspaper but has chosen not to do so because of possible legal complaint being considered by Albert. The newspaper has it's own attorneys so they can deal with that.
To be candid Daisy has about chosen to no longer assist in this case because of the time required not to mention all of the accusations being tossed about . My wife is a good hearted woman and those who know her personally know that she does not need to be defended to those who may not know her personally . She is however a mother and a wife and that is her first responsibly.

A friend, who asked that his name not be used, sent me this suggestion; "The man is comatose and has no funds The embassy should be notified the PAF has a c130 that can aro vac transport him to manila. There he can go to ST Luke and be evaluated. the embassy would then take care of it from there".
I would hope that those in contact with the Embassy (Daisy?) pass this suggestion on to them.
I agree with Jil. We should focus on the problem at hand, (Hunt) and worry about the "paperwork" later. Winning small skirmishes, and losing the big battle (Hunt again) is an exercise in futility.

I am writing again to plead for your assistance with the situation with Thomas J. Hunt. This man was first hospitalized on about January 28th and was in a condition to be released and able to return (via commercial aircraft with a nurse assistance) to the US in February, if he had been the money to pay for his hospital bill or had someone signed a promissory note. However, his conditional has only declined. This man is a diabetic, who was diagnosed with a brain tumor, and apparently now some sort of Pneumonias or what they are calling Hospital Virus Syndrome.
Although he was moved about 10 days ago to ICU, they have him classified as a out patient. This is again for the fact that his hospital bill is over 200,00 pesos. The doctor said last week that he should be stabilized in 7 days if he was provided the necessary daily medication. The daily medication is running about $250.00 -$300.00 per day. He is not getting all of his prescribed medications on a daily basis as these are purchased after receipt of donations being received. Although Daisy Cline has raised over $1,000.00 since Mr. Hunt was moved to ICU, I believe that Tom Hunt has only had his full regiment of medication on three of these days. Daisy and a few other ladies in her group have been working on a daily basis to assist Mr. Hunt. They have only been able to recently buy the two most important medications in different pharmacy's downtown CDO and apparently they are now dealing with the pharmacy's not having stock/inventory. These ladies have also requested and assisted in obtaining and paying for the three blood transfusions which were delayed because of not being able to obtain his rare type A Negative and had blood flown in from Cebu and Dumaguite.
It is my understanding that Tom Hunt was unconscious for 2-3 days and then came out of this as a result of receiving his full regiment of medication on a few days. However, I understand as of yesterday that although he is conscious is disoriented and not always aware of who is with him.
Our group has been doing everything that we can to assist this man. However, it appears Tom Hunts condition is again on a downward spiral. I spoke to Jeaneth who visited him in ICU yesterday and she said that he is in bad shape and has bloated or swollen throughout his body. The Nurse said that it is a pity that he can't obtain the medication he needs. I also spoke with Daisy at the hospital today trying to coordinate phone calls with Tom Hunt and his step-son (Ted Hammon) and his cousin Tara Smith. We were hoping that he could at least hear their voices and know he is loved. Daisy said that his condition is so bad its hard for her to see him like this.
I realize that both of you gentlemen are very busy, but if you could take a few hours out of your busy schedule to please look into assisting this man with medication for 7-10 days so that his condition may be stabilized, you might be able to save his life. Once stabilized and depending upon his conditions at that time, he should be in a position to obtain a commercial med evac or a private med evac if necessary. It is a shame that he was not released from the hospital in February because he could not pay his bill as he would probably be in Phoenix today. With your immediate assistance and cooperation we might be able to save this mans life and return him home to the US VA Hospital in Phoenix where he can obtain a better medical evaluation and obtain the type of medication and care that we have in the US.
Time is of the essence so I am requesting your immediate attention and assistance to see what can be done to bring this American Vet back home. Please immediately contact Ted Hammon, Tara Smith, Daisy Cline or myself. We are all more than willing work with you and any other organization which you can involve. Either respond to this e-mail or call the individuals directly. Their contact information is below.
It appears that if we do not have this immediate support then you should advise us how to make arrangements to have his remains returned to Phoenix or if he would be buried in just some paupers grave in CDO.

I am not medically qualified to even offer an opinion.
In saying that I was taken aback by the apparent rapid deterioration in Toms condition this pm from last time I saw him which was just before I left for Manila.
Equally clear is that any notion of Tom being repatriated under his present level of ICU treatment is not going to happen unless it is a dedicated E VAC . No commercial carrier will I believe accept a seriously ill patient, unless instructed by a government agency. I believe Tom now falls into this category.
Reality would suggest that unless Tom makes a sudden recovery from his present medical position, then his stay in ICU in CDO is now looking like being full time.
There have been many people who have been positive, helpful and supportive of Tom. He is probably not even aware that he is receiving such support, his condition appears to be such.
What is need is funding, yes sorry but its all down to money and the lack of it. Perhaps if the well meaning people who are making such an important contribution can now focus entirely on providing such a solution it will count for more than anything else at this time.
Please be aware that Tom appears now to be very disoriented and will probably not understand very much of what is happening and going on around him.

Me, Daisy and Leilah went there this morning. I went inside the ICU this morning and talk to him and able to let him hear his step son Mr. Hammond on my mobile phone. I was touched as he was on his senses and wanting to reach out for my phone to talk to him but as he`s intubated so its not possible. I could tell he was glad to hear his sons voice who gave him assurance that they are trying their best of having him send back to the US , so they will be together again. I told him to be strong and to hang on. I asked him can you promise me this? He nod his head many times .. a YES! He is fighting! I just hope there will always be enough funds for his medicines as two of the nurses informed me their were days that Jane Laze`s family were not able to provide drugs to Mr. Hunt.
I see him a lot better and responsive today. I would like to suggest to everyone here, to pay him a visit when you have the chance. It will mean a lot to him. Today, we bought all the meds he needed from couple of expats who sent us their help. I forgot their names but Daisy will surely post it here.
Other than this, I was able to take photos of him this afternoon ( april 16, Thursday ).

Somebody, a blood donor from SOS Philippines asked me to post the urgent need of Mr Hunt in the forum and and right away 15thousand pesos pledged and was deposited to our account. This prompted us to borrow money making the pledges as collateral. 10K borrowed from Max, CDO Expat,plus the money I received from Mr Lee of welcome to phil forum 6500, as his pledged to me last year, (this money is supposed to be my own refund already for last year's project) So we completed the medicine in the total amount of 15,780 pesos.
please take note that albumin or zenalb is twice a day @ 3,180 and Tienam at 4 times a day is 1,635.00
Our total loaned is 16,500
but before we went to hospital, Jeaneth received 2810.05 from Wllliam and Mila Britt which she immediately gave to me!
So 16.500.00p less 2,800.00p makes our/ my loan to 13,700.00pesos

Today as per our last chat last Tuesday Janelaze, promised that she will send money for medicine! I hope she will!!! This is why I am optimistic that I can pay my loan, after all we have 15K in the bank as of yesterday's SOS pledged.
But she sent only 100 US dollars and she sent the control number to me for her sister Aurea to pick up! The four of us Jane, Jill, Laila and me have a short meeting and discuss if we are going to get the money from Aurea for today's medicine. We decided just to ask them how will they use it and Linda said she is going to have the laboratory done for Mr. Hunt. Jill, being a nurse explained to us it is also very important....off the 100 dollars of Janelaze!

By the way, today we went to hospital twice. We let Ted Hammon, his step son in the US talked to him in the celfone. Upon request of Ted, the hospital allowed us to take some pictures but at this time I am so sorry to say that my partner Jill has to wait until tomorrow to download those pictures from her phone to her PC.
We have the chance to talk with the nurses and they are all thumbs up by the cooperation that they get from Mr Hunt! All of them said that with just continues medication, Mr. Hunt will really make it! We told him Tommy hung on...and he nod his head and even try to speak! For awhile the ICU became a venue for picture taking! Yes he is in a critical condition but a very good patient!!! He responded to all his medicines positively!
He is recommended for another CT scan, CBC, Potassium, Sugar level laboratory tests! Will require around 6000 pesos more or less because CT scan is around 5K already! I am not a medical person but he is improving a lot from the first time he was in the ICU! Take note also that he gave his nod on our "pictorials"!

Today, in behalf of Expats Ladies Charities, Inc. I received 5000 thousand pesos from Gene & Jenn Murphy. However, we didn't go to the hospital because I already asked Janelaze yesterday to take care of today's medicine because I already have loans to individuals just to be be able to complete the medicines last Monday, Tuesday (was not able to give completely) Wednesday, thursday and Friday.
Janelaze and her family knew that we already borrowed money just to be able to provide the medicines for Mr Hunt. Last Thursday I really asked Janelaze to take charge of today's medicine because even if we will receive money today, we need to repay money we borrowed to pay previous medicines. I could not jeopardize the name of the organization not to pay what I loaned.
I have our YM chat saved so in case there will be no medicine today, we are totally not liable for it! On Monday, if we will start all over again with a new set of medicines because of failure on their part to provide today's medicine, then it is about time I will say ENOUGH! We have done everything we can but if the family themselves will not cooperate with us, then what for?

I am hoping that the money I sent will be used for Mr. Hunts medical expenses, it seems that at this critical moment, he no longer has any advocates, as his wife has in the past not been interested in providing for his care or medications.
What is the next step, to wait until he passes due to lack of medications? I surely hope not.
If the funds I sent are not going to be used for his care, please send it back. Maybe will try and contact the hospital, and send funds directly to them for his care.

I know that we are all very busy in our normal day to day lives with work, family, church and other regular activities, but it would be great if you could give us periodic updates as to any updates from you folks or other friends and family of Tom in Arizona.
I hope that you realize the daily efforts of members of our group on a daily basis to assist Tom. You can see that our energy is down and frustration is high. We really want Tom to live and return to Arizona, but we really can not do this on our own. Tom and our group needs your assistance in any way. Just to know that others are making efforts on Tom's behalf in addition to our group's efforts would provide a light of hope that we are not alone in this endeavor.
We have not had any inputs or feedback from either of you. Can you please advise of any updates regarding efforts in Arizona on the behalf of Tom?
Was the request for DD 214 submitted? Yes, the form you provided me was completed and faxed to the number provided. I haven't heard anything from then yet.

On my behalf I can't say enough thanks for all everyone is doing. I feel so lost in all of the dead ends I keep hitting with the government agencies. It seems that Janelaze has this whole situation under her control, and the irratating part of it all is that she isn't even a citizen, but can take advantage of all the rights of a citizen and spouse.
In regards to what your group can do to assist. I would only hope that those on the grounds in CDO would continue to provide encouragement to Tommy as their own lives and schedules permit. Those that have a little extra to share and feel it is a worth cause to do so, I like the idea of direct with the hospital if need be. I don't think I really trust the family to use the funds as they should be. If they had been, I don't think Tommy would be in the situation he is in. From what I have learned about Janelaze and her events since coming to the USA, I don't think she ever really cared about Tommy, but was just waiting for time to soak him of money and the breath of life he had left.
Again, words could never express all that my heart feels for the ExPats, the Ladies Charity. If ever I have occassion to meet any of you in person, I would jump at the chance, for you all are truly compassionate people. Your actions have spoken much louder, than the hollow words of others, who say the care.
I will continue to fight the American Government as much as I can to bring my Step-father home, and can only Trust God, for the final out come. I would hope that those who have begun this long battle will continue to do as much as they can, as often as they can, but do not expect them to go so far as to sacrifice their own families and lives. My Step father would not expect that, at I don't believe so from the way he raised me. He would appreciate it, but would not expect it.

You will not receive anything from the Military records group. They shall just mail you a copy of the DD 214. If you would like for me to complete the application form requesting VA benefits for Tommy on your behalf. I am more than happy to do so and send it to you for submission. Please advise.
I highly recommend that you take advantage of Mike Farrell's offer to send letters to the Department of Social Security, DOD and the FBI. However, you will need to e-mail Mike and provide him with Tom's complete name, SS#, previous address in Yuma or your present address, birth date, etc..
In regards to sending money directly to the hospital, you can do this, but please understand that at this point they will probably just apply any money received to his past due hospital bill and this may NOT go towards his daily medications. If you believe Albert that funds can be sent through the American Embassy, I would first check with them and see how they will assist in buying Tom's daily medications.
If you want to make sure that Tom is getting the required daily medications in effort to stabilize his condition in an attempt to give him some more time on this earth and perhaps return to the US where we know he will receive the proper care, then I highly recommend that convince family, friends and fellow church members of Tom to gather funds immediately and send them to the bank account that Daisy and the Ladies Charity organization established on his behalf. These ladies along with Jane Laze sister, are obtaining the funds and purchasing the medications together. Daisy is assuring that every dollar is going for his medication or blood donations and accounts for every dollar.

Please tell the Pastor of the Baptist Church that Tom was a member, that if he and their fellow church members do care about the life of Tom Hunt, that they perhaps should not just trust in God, but also the strangers who have been assisting him for the past 5-6 weeks and try to raise funds as we have and immediately send them to Daisy to ensure that Tom receives the medications that he needs. God does help those who help others and help themselves.
I want you and the family know that there are a few people in CDO that are now talking of having a get together to build Tom a casket so that he can at least have a decent burial in the Philippines. How long will Tom live without these medications? How much will Tom suffer during the period of not receiving the medications the the time that our lord relieves him from his sufferings? Unfortunately, this is what will occur if everyone who cares about Tom does NOT IMMEDIATELY get involved and donate whatever they can to provide him with his needed medications.
If you know of any family members or church members that are willing to go to the Philippines or missionary's presently in the Philippines that get involved and take control of the funds and medication needs, we highly recommend this to occur ASAP.

The only way that Ted Hammon will be able to work with any agencies or have Government or any organizations to assist him, is if we are able to get him to sign these Power of Attorney's that he provided as well as the US Embassy's Privacy Act Release. Is there anyway that you gentlemen can accompany Daisy and the other ladies to the hospital and explain to Tom that the only way to further assist him is if he signs these documents. When I spoke with Tom's sister Elsie (70) she said that when her father or mother (I forget which) was in a similar condition that she placed a pen in the person's hand and assisted in signing the necessary documents.

I am not sure why you directed this e-mail at me or why you are asking me these questions. I personally did not make this statement. However, I believe that the basis was that you had promised to send money and this was never received. You have previously made statements that you were sending money for medication, but it did not arrive or apparently did not go for Tom's medication. A few days ago I sent an e-mail asking Albert for an update from his meeting with the senator and did not receive a reply. I would think that these are the reasons why people would doubt your word. This is why one would question what you state. We all know that talk is one thing and action is another. Although I did not make the comments that you are referring to, in my opinion only, your actions have not lived up to your words.
The majority of the e-mails received from you and Albert just complain about statements that different people have made based upon their opinion of your actions or lack thereof. Again, this appears that you are more concerned about what people say about you rather than the welfare of your husband Tom.
As I suggested to Albert, perhaps the two of you should try to communicate what efforts you have done and what the results were from the efforts. If you state that you are sending money, you should follow-up to ensure that is arrives and is utilized for Tom's medication. If you state you had a meeting scheduled for last week and do not provide feedback, I can understand why people would assume that you never did have a meeting.

The email being forwarded to you is what was sent to Gina Gormley who is a member of Senator McCains staff which Ted Hammon was cc'd on at the time sent.
That being said after having a read what all of you have written about me I will no longer be assisting Thomas Hunt by making phone calls, sending funds or any other type of assistance. When someone takes time out of their day and money out of their pocket to assist someone making the types of statements that you have is certainly no way to get them to continue to assist.
You people have been forwarded various emails sent to the following Senators offices, McCain, Warner & Webb. You have also been forwarded emails sent to and from Ms. Hicks (DOS). Since I am unwilling to assist in this matter I suggest that you find the contact numbers the same way I did.

I followed-up on the call and e-mail from Albert and called the phone number ( 808.433.0606) and spoke with the same lady that Albert spoke with Jennifer. She advised me that Terry Amimoto and Dr. Andrus are the two that we need to coordinate. She advised that Terry was not in the office at this time and that Dr. Andrus was off island. I shall send them an e-mail with the pertinent information regarding Tom Hunt as well as the name and address of the hospital and Tom's doctors name and phone number. I shall request that they contact Tom's doctor directly. However, I suggest that perhaps someone on the ground in CDO go to Tom's doctor, see if he has an e-mail address and obtain his address and phone contact information, and if possible to be with Tom's doctor when he calls the VA office in Hawaii and speaks to either Terry Amimoto or Doctor Andrus.
Since composing this e-mail, I received a call from Terry Amimoto. I explained the basic information regarding Tom's medical issues, hospitalization to Terry and told her that I shall follow-up with an e-mail to she and Dr. Andrus. I told her that our goal is to provide Tom with the daily medications to stabailize him to the point that he can be transported back to the US and that it is Tom's desire to return to Arizona. She did advise me that she has never been involved with anything along this line before, but said that she will look into this and do whatever she can to assist with efforts to have Tom enrolled in the VA, perhaps, obtain payments for Hospitalization, medications and transportation to either Hawaii or Arizona, depending upon his actual condition. I told her that we shall try to have Tom's doctor call her office and also try to arrange to obtain medical records and provide these to them. She asked who is the primary contact and I told her that I shall be their primary contact here in the US, but advised that I shall include Jane Laze and Albert on all communications.

I am wondering if you have any connections with the VA in Hawaii or elsewhere that may be able to get involved and assist with getting the VA involved to assist Tom. Ted Hammon has requested the DD 214 from the Records Group in St. Louis, MO. I do not believe that he has received the DD 214 at this time. I have "CC" Ted Hammon (Tom Hunt's Step-Son), Tara Smith (Tom Hunt's cousin) Daisy and Alan Cline (Daisy is the President of the CDO-Ex-Pats Ladies Charity Organization), Jane Laze Songcuya Hunt (Tom's wife in Virginia) and her friend Albert Dermott.
Thomas J Hunt (72), was born on March 29, 1937 in Kimbel Kansas to Elena Mae Kelsey and Thomas Ray Hunt. Thomas Hunt was raised in his later childhood in Yuma,Arizona where he maintained residence until 2008. Thomas J. Hunt served in the US Navy in ADAC Alaska and Port Hueneme, California. It is our understanding that he served in the Navy in the mid to late 1950s (perhaps 1956-1960). His wife Jane Laze or Step-Son Ted Hammon can provide you with his Social Security Number.
Thomas Hunt has been hospitalized in Cagayan de Oro City, Philippines since January 28, 2009. He is a diabetic who was apparently diagnosed with a Brain Tumor in the Hospital in Cagayan de Oro, City on the island of Mindanao, Philippines. Since his hospitalization, the Doctor had medically released him sometime in mid February, but the hospital would not discharge him as his hospital bill was not paid nor did they receive a Promissory Note of Payment. About two weeks ago last Saturday, Mr. Hunt was moved to the ICU Unit of the hospital as he apparently had internal bleeding (blood was obvious from his mouth and nose). It is also our understanding that they did have issues with controlling his diabetes as his Blood Sugar Level was 323. He required Type A negative Blood and Daisy Cline was able to locate donors and coordinated the transportation of the donated blood through the Philippine Red Cross and had two of the donations flown in from other Philippine islands.
I am part of a small Ex-Pats organization in the city of Cagayan de Oro, Philippines that is trying to assist Mr. Hunt and his family in
Arizona and wife in Virginia with providing Thomas Hunt the medication and medical care that he desperately requires and the ultimate goal is to stabilize Mr. Hunt and make arrangements to return him to Phoenix Arizona for further medical evaluation and proper medical treatment at a VA Hospital in Phoenix so that his family and friends can be close and assist him.

No issue what-so-ever. You did not state why you sent me this information. You did state that Tom's doctor needed to call the VA Pacific Islands Health Care Systems VISN 21 and speak to the Chief of Branch. After we spoke on the phone, I read your previous e-mail stating that you were no longer going to make any phone calls or attend the meeting with the Senator and were done assisting. I therefore assumed, that this was the case.
I did not mean to step on your toes and do not want to impede on your efforts! It is not a matter of sides, we would like to think that we are on Tom Hunt's side and working together to assist him. I certainly did not mention any animosity amongst those involved with the assistance of Tom Hunt.
The e-mail that I sent to Terry Amimoto identifies all of the funds received and medicines purchased. At the bottom of that e-mail I advised her that Jane Laze or you should be their primary contacts, but did provide her with other's names and contact information.
There are a number of us who have made many phone calls and sent e-mails and we shall continue to do so. Also for future reference I can not be the contact person for Tom. I have no legal right to speak for him. I am pretty sure that the only people who can do so would be either Janelaze or Ted. My goal was and is only to obtain information as to who the correct people for either of them to speak to.
I know that I can come across as an ass at times but this does not hamper my usefulness in obtaining the information needed to provide to both Janelaze and Ted. I will be the 1st person to admit that when I feel that someone is attacking my integrity I will go on the offense. I have been doing quite a bit of leg work to find assistance for Mr. Hunt. But when I read some of this things that you guys write about me it does make me want to take action which doesn't help Mr. Hunt at all.
Whatever you people may think of me I have obtained plenty of useful contacts on this matter which you've all been copied in on. We have sent information about privately funded air ambulances to Mr. Hunt's family in the United States. We visited Mr. Hunt in the hospital two weeks ago and found that he was well cared for and in a safe environment.

We have been trying to ensure that you are CC on the updates and status. When Daisy Cline stepped forward as the liaison for the Expat Ladies Charities Group and first contacted the US Embassy and spoke with Ms Cairo, Daisy offered to assist him regarding the embassy. She was advised that the embassy will not pay nor loan money for the medical/hospital expenses. In regards to the medical assisted transportation to Manila and perhaps back to the US, they did offer Daisy some hope of assistance.
A friend of the group who asked that his name not be used, sent this suggestion; The embassy should be notified the PAF has a c130 that can Aero Vac transport him to Manila. There he can go to ST Luke and be evaluated and treated better. The embassy would then be able to coordinate payments with St. Luke and assist with the subsequent trip back to the US (Arizona or Hawaii if necessary).
I would like to know if the Embassy or perhaps the American Association of the Philippines or any of your affiliates can make arrangements to have Tom Hunt transported from Cagayan de Oro to St Lukes in Manila for further evaluation and treatment to further stabilize him for trip to the VA Hospital In Hawaii or Arizona? This is making me so stressful too but everytime I am about to give up something good comes up! Yesterday we gave all of his medicines..thanks to Mike Belter who gave 25thousand pesos. We are able also to pay what we owe although we are still a little bit short of almost 8 thousand pesos! But then again, I am always optimistic. After all my FAITH is stronger than me...and my God will always lead me to what is best!
While I was still on my way to Polymedic Hospital, I received a text message telling me a fiancee of someone is going to bring to me 23 thousand for the medicines of Mr Hunt!!!!!! What a miracle!!!!! I surely don't know about him for I don't receive any email from him!
Just like yesterday, the email of Mike Belter just came out of the blue and there our problem was solved and the medicine was bought! The same thing happened today, and we bought all the medicine although we have skip one or two rounds today which leads to another higher level of TIENAM!
This is a very hard leson for all of us!
Everytime we miss the medication it is much better that we will not do anything. IT IS GIVE IT COMPLETELY OR NONE AT ALL! Now, the three of us here on the ground with Mr Hunt opted to buy the new level of medicine, please be with us in our decision by mentally checking the medicine of Mr Hunt everyday and the amount of money we receive as I am updating you guys everyday about it.
Janelaze, Yan, please if in any case that you will say you will send money and you can't after all, please let everybody know that you can't so that we can look for other options. I don't want to blame you but that's one sad reality last Saturday! Ted Hammon, please just cooperate and guide the plan of Janelaze Hunt so that we will not need to have him sign the power of attorney for you!
Wthen we can get through with this daily crisis of providing medicine which now I am sure will rise to 20K up daily, then we will discuss how to pay his hospital bills and bring him back to the US, not until then!!!!!!! I don't know but the hospital autorities in Polymedic told us that they have handled the same situation of an American citizen but through communicating with the State department in the US and the US Embassy Manila . They received a letter from US Emvbassy Manila assuring them that all the bills will be paid by the Embassy direct to the hospital.......and it was done! .PLEASE FOLLOW UP ON THIS JANE & TED together!
Another option that the hospital has given and suggested to us is is to deposit all amount derived from our fundraising directly to their hospital bank account. Just send to them via fax the details of your transaction so that they could credit it to the the bill of Mr Hunt and they will give the official receipt to Linda and Aurea. However we need to raise 100K first before they will provide him the expensive medicine like ZEN ALB 20% IV Sol. 50ML, Php 3,762.00 and whatever is replacement of TIENAM! After our meeting outside the office, the three of us decided against this for the meantime...

We are happy to see your involvement and hope that we can work together to keep Tom alive, stabilize his condition and hopefully return him to the US. I agree that we all need to put the animosity and bickering behind us. I do understand your position and that no one likes their integrity or intentions to be challenged. Many of us felt the same way when asked why are we helping this stranger Tom Hunt. Thank God that there are still people in this world that will go out of their way to assist a fellow American, a fellow Vet and a stranger. We both know that if we were in Tom's position that we would appreciate any assistance that we could obtain from anybody.
I know that Ted feels frustrated and that his hands are tied to further assist the man who raised him. Without Ted having Power of Attorney for his Dad, he is in the same boat as you and I. When I contacted Ted and he became involved, he made numerous phone calls, talked to numerous people and was advised that he needed to obtain a Power of Attorney to further assist his Dad. Ted obtained and generated a Power of Attorney and a Medical Power of Attorney and sent these to Daisy on the ground in CDO so that she could print these and take them to the hospital so that Linda or Jane's sister could have Tom sign these. Unfortunately they did not do this and since then Tom's condition deteriorated and was unable to sign these. Perhaps, Jane Laze can provide Ted with the Power of Attorney and Medical Power of Attorney to assist his Dad as Tom is not in a condition that he can do so. This would allow Ted to move forward to apply for VA assistance and Medicare/Medical for Tom. These organizations could assist in paying for Tom's medication, Hospital bill and return to the US. This would also take the pressure off all of us trying to raise funds on Tom's behalf for his daily medications and then the hospital bill. These things really need to be accomplished ASAP.
If Tom is going to be returned to the US, these efforts must be accomplished either by Jane Laze or Ted so that Tom has a place to go when he does return to the US. If Jane Laze does not provide Ted with Power of Attorney to accomplish these tasks, then Jane Laze needs to accomplish these efforts herself ASAP. When Tom has been approved for the VA and Medical/Medicare benefits, these documents need to be provided to the US Embassy, the Hospital and any organizations involved in his assistance. As Daisy stated yesterday after her meeting with the hospital executives, these things should make the difference. Please understand that had Tom had Medical/Medicaid and VA assistance, we would not be in a position to raise funds daily and the people on the ground in CDO would not have to go through their daily efforts to obtain the cash, go to two different pharmacies and then to the hospital to provide the medications to the ICU and to coordinate the medications on a daily basis. We believe that Tom probably would have been released in February and returned to the US if he had the assistance from the VA and Medical/Medicaid.. Can you please work with Jane Laze to accomplish these efforts or provide ted with the Power of Attorneys necessary for him to accomplish these efforts. I was approved by the VA in one day after submitting my application for VA Assistance. I am not sure how long the Medicaid/Medicare would take, but I would like to think that this can also be accomplished in a fast manner under the circumstances. I spoke with Kevin Richie about 30 minutes ago and gave him Toms SSN so that he could look up his service record. This will allow us to register Tom for VA medical services.
Now even if they are only willing to treatment him for the VA clinic in Pasay City he will at least get his meds provided to him on a daily basis either free of charge or at a very discounted rate.
The best outcome would be if they flew him to Hawaii.

The next step is for Dr. Patriana to contact the VA (011.63.838.4566) in Pasay City, Philippines to coordinate treatment. That text message was from my fiancee, Nancy. We were chatting at the time and she asked if I had sent my donation to the Expats Ladies Charities, yet. I told Nancy that making a transfer thru Xoom to the Charities account was not successful. I then asked if she would mind if I sent it to her bank for transfer to you. She readily agreed, which didn't surprise me at all. When I had completed the transfer, she sent you that text.
I also asked her to have a picture made with you when she gave you the funds. I hope ypu will agree to that. I want to include that picture with her fiancee visa packet, which I will submit later this month showing our involment in the Expat community. We have been in contact since June or July of 2005, my last visit with her and her family in Bukidnon, Mactan, Cebu, Bohol and Cagayan de Oro was in July-August 2007.

I spoke with Albert Dermott again today and asked him about the forthcoming SS payment. He advised me that in regards to Tom's SS payment, that this may or may not be delayed. He said that SS received a notification from the Philippines stating that Tom was not receiving his SS payments. He further stated that the SS Dept. was working with the family of Janelaze in CDO to establish a new bank account and that this may result in a delay in receipt of payment.
The main reason that Albert called me was to advise of the good news that Tom Hunt is now enrolled in VA System in Hawaii and that the hospital and Tom's doctor are requested to contact the VA Clinic in Pasay City. Apparently the VA Clinic in Pasay will assist with free medication or reduced costs for medication. Let's pray that this is the case. Albert also sent a similar e-mail a little while ago. Daisy is on her way to deliver the e-mail to the Doctor and the hospital!

To everyone, I BEG YOU to please to my concerns. I don't and won't start nor wish to start a pissing match with anyone I think you are ALL in wonderful group of people, but my main contact has been with Tom Laundry, and I have voiced some private concerns over what you all are expecting to happen with the VA in Manila. As I told Tom, even though working for the VA myself and helping 1000 of Veterans with both claims for VA benefits and social security, the specific law that covers VA entitlements is Title 38, is way too long and legalistic for any of you, not saying you're not smart enough but Federal law the way it is written is meant to be confusing.
I am like you all only concerned with one thing, Mr. Hunts health care, not tomorrow or next week but tonight when he needs meds.
Let me give a just hypothetical situation so maybe someone will take me serious.
I first ask one question did Mr. Hunt have a copy of a DD214, was told not for sure but someone thought so. If so, that is easy enough to get and I gave someone even the address where to write for it, also telling them that some people of Mr. Hunts age when getting out of the Military filed a copy of their DD214 with the court house which was required at one time, no longer the case.
Number two, has Mr. Hunt ever been enrolled at any stateside or here in the Philippines for the Philippines is the only place besides Guam where a military retiree or NOW LISTEN SERVICE CONNECTED PERSON WITH A VERIFIABLE DISABILTY OR COMPENSATION AND PENSION CAN RECEIVE FREE MEDICAL CARE AT THE CLINIC IN MANILA.
As it stands it appears to me that Mr. Hunt was never in the military at a time of a conflict, police action, national guard call up by the president, or a declared war. That still doesn't mean he can not avail himself of VA health care if he is indeed enrolled at the VA Clinic in Manila.
I just got off the phone for an hour and half with several people at the clinic at Manila, of course without his SSN and power of attorney they would only answer so much, but after they looked me up in the computer find my own case number to be "restricted" they knew I had worked before for the VA, which most of them do, so they were very generous with their answers.
They asked me was he already enrolled at the VA clinic, I said according to the group yes, someone from Hawaii put him in the system. Now here I am playing devil's advocate, if I believe what has been said and he is enrolled, for I know in my time I could enroll someone in a matter of minutes even if that person had never set foot in my clinic before, for if I had a copy of a DD214 proving he/she had served over 190 days without a dishonorable discharge I would enroll them. The next step is within 30 days they have by law have their first appointment with a primary care physician which in Mr. Hunts, the VA said the same thing. He needed to be physically able to come to the clinic to be seen by a doctor who if after that felt he needed this or that type of medication he would then be given it at a discount or a co pay, it used to 2 dollars per RX per month, but that was years ago and I think it is at least 7 or higher now.
What is FEE BASIS, fee basis is where the VA because you have a SERVICE CONNECTED DISABILITY RATED AT 50% or more or entitled if it is an emergency and you are already Service Connected under VA law that there are several hospitals accredited within the PHILIPINNES, THAT after a letter of approval you can go there and the VA will be responsible for your total and complete care.
I asked the specific question, if Mr. Hunt is not Service Connected for any of these disease he is currently having does the VA have an obligation to pay for him to be in a private Hospital. Could he get FEE BASIS for such, the answer was not mine but there's an absolute NO! If we could get Mr. Hunt to directly appeal his case to the US Embassy through the Department of Veterans Affairs and they sent the VA clinic all of his medical records, there stand a remote possibility that they could under some circumstances provide the medications but that is still not a given.
Once again I plead all of you to make absolutely sure of the facts before you pen them to paper. Let it be KNOW I DO NOT KNOW THE FACTS, I only base my decisions based on your alls email, like now I am so confused about the money issue and his SS being stopped , in my very first letter, I told someone that the first that needed to be done was to notify Social Security.
I have prayed heart out on a daily basis over this man's plight for he is, combat or not, just like Tom my brother. But you people are talking about private air hospitalization flights that could run you into the 50,000 dollar range all according to the type of critical care they need to perform on the trip home.
It took all I could do to get a little emotional at first when I got just a clerk at the VA and not my contact person, for I was getting frustrated, but the VA owes me no information TOM is protected under the HIPPA laws still of the United States because the VA is a funded organization which is run by the US Government. I was actually shocked when they did ask me if I had a signed release of information from Mr. Hunt to talk about him, but I do and can be very diplomatic at times when needed.
I am of no importance in any of this; I am just an old soldier trying to help another one. If I have offended anyone I apologize but for me too this thing is getting some bit out of hand and we are losing control of what is called open honest communications in groups and organizations. We have turned Daisy into a nervous wreck probably taken a toll on her own health and all I am asking you , all of you is to think, be sure of what you post here, for it sometimes leads to misunderstandings when there is more than one person in charge.
Remember none of the above is fact except it is true I talked with the VA today, two times last week at Baltimore, got the same answers and thought it might have a grain of truth to it, so I needed to share it, before we all get our hopes up that the VA will come riding like a knight on a white horse and fix this all for us. I hope and pray to God that I am wrong and that everyone I talked to only told me what I wanted to hear, the company line, there was a glint of hope in talking with them today, if indeed someone actually and JUST WHO IS THAT PERSON who has the right to speak for Mr. Hunt. I would take all of 10 minutes with a signed release of information to THAT person and he/she could go to the VA clinic and found out, NUMBER ONE is he a registered Veteran there. Number TWO, even if not service connected can we circumvent the law and provide him with medications, just on the records and doctors notes from the Hospital in CDO.

First, please try to contact VA again and advise us who is the person took for...We've been trying to contact this number 02-8384566 but on one will answer except for an answering machine and nobody calls the hospital....
Second, we woul like to inform everybody that Tommy is improving since last night. Yes, we are so hopelless at that time but Praise God somebody who also have a patient in ICU bought accidentally bought a medicine prescribed for Tommy and not to her own patient. The nurses gave to Tommy and they asked Linda that to replace it today. Today, his SS money arrived and we continue the medication in the total amount of 27,951 pesos which is until 6pm tomorrow.
As such his condition temporarily stablized. The doctors now recommend him for tracheostomy,and ETA BS/CS while it is still possible to administer it to him...We will partially pay his Tracheostomy and ETA whatever is left to his SS money which is 23K still in the bank. But the required amount for this medical procedure is 33,500pesos. The doctors said that we can't afford to wait until the VA is approve in Manila.

I don't know of any email I created that mentions you in any way, so I don't know where you got the idea I questioned your integrity. I have made it a point to keep out of the name calling that has been evident in some emails.
I know some emails get attached to others so that it becomes hard to determine excactly who wrote what.
